LSI & Dosages with Orenda – Cyanuric Acid
Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
CYA (also called stabilizer or conditioner) protects chlorine from UV degradation from sunlight. Without CYA, chlorine will degrade quickly in direct sunlight.
Some CYA is a good thing (50 ppm or less), but too much CYA ( over-stabilization) is a bad thing.
CYA lowers the LSI and slows chlorine down. The speed of chlorine (%HOCL) is barely impacted by pH when CYA is in the water... chlorine strength is determined by the free chlorine to CYA ratio (FC:CYA).
