What is AI Insights?
AI Insights is a data assistant built into Skimmer Reports. Ask it a plain-English question about your business, and it returns a summarized answer in seconds.
Use it to get quick answers without sifting through multiple reports or to ask about things Skimmer doesn't have a dedicated report for yet.

How to ask good questions
AI Insights works best when you treat it like a knowledgeable teammate. Here's how to get the most accurate, useful answers.
Ask in plain English
Questions and statements both work. You don't need special syntax.
β "How many tabs did we use last month?" Β· "Show me who's overdue."
Be specific
The more focused your question, the faster and sharper the answer. Two details that help most:
- Name a time period. "In March," "last week," or "this month vs. last month" all work. If you skip it, AI Insights defaults to last month or current state.
- Name the person, chemical, or customer you mean. "How many stops did Maria complete last week?" returns exactly what you're looking for. "How much chlorine did we use in April?" returns all your chlorine types β which is fine if that's what you want.
Ask one thing at a time
AI Insights returns the best results when you focus on a single metric per question. Multi-part questions slow things down and can return inconsistent results.
β Avoid: "How many service minutes did we spend and how much chlorine did we use on John Smith's pool in April?"
β Better: "How many service minutes did we log at John Smith's pool in April?" Then follow up: "How much chlorine did we use there?"
Use follow-ups
AI Insights remembers the context of your last several questions, so follow-ups are fast and natural. It carries forward the time period, customer, and other context from your previous question unless you change it.
β "What about shock?" Β· "Same for last month." Β· "Now just the inactive ones."
Ask for rankings
When you want a sorted list, say so. AI Insights can rank results from highest to lowest or vice versa.
β "Top 10 customers by revenue this year." Β· "Lowest pH readings this month."
Use the example prompts

How conversations work
- AI Insights remembers your recent questions within a session. Follow-ups work reliably for your last 10 or so exchanges.
- Closing and reopening the drawer keeps your conversation active as long as you stay on the Reports page.
- Leaving the Reports page or refreshing starts a fresh conversation. History isn't saved between visits.
- Switching to a completely new topic after a long back-and-forth? Start fresh with a new question for the cleanest results.
πΎ Save before you go. Download your results before leaving the Reports page. Once you navigate away, that conversation is gone.

Known limitations
β οΈ Double-check important numbers. Treat answers as a fast first read. Verify before acting on them, especially for financial decisions.
| Area | What to know |
|---|---|
| Profitability and margins | Answers for profitability, margins, and breakeven aren't reliable yet. Stick to plain revenue, cost, and invoice questions for now. |
| Large data sets (readings, dosages, stops) | Companies with a large number of recorded readings, dosages, or service stops may see some questions time out. Narrowing the time window (a month or a quarter at a time) helps. |
| Large date ranges | Broad ranges like "all time" or a full year can be slow or fail for companies with a lot of data. If a question stalls, narrow the date range. |
| Timeout message | When a question times out, you'll see "I wasn't able to process your question. Please try rephrasing it." Try a shorter date range or a more specific question instead. A clearer message is on the way. |
| Multi-part questions | Questions that combine unrelated metrics come back slow and inconsistent. Ask one part at a time and use follow-ups. |
How to share feedback
Your feedback directly improves AI Insights. There are two ways to share it:

- Give feedback link in the chat window β share a more detailed reaction, report a wrong answer, or suggest a feature. This goes straight to the product team.
AI Insights is an early access feature. Capabilities and known limitations will change as the product evolves.
