Add Service Types to Bodies of Water
Tiers: All
Note: Some Checklist Template options require the Scaling Up or Enterprise tier.
This is step 4 of setting up service types. Service types reach your techs once you assign them to bodies of water. In this article, you set a default service type for each body of water type, assign service types to existing bodies of water, and add checklist items to a single body of water for exceptions.
Before you start, create your service types. Make sure every tech has Skimmer Pro 12.16 or later; you can check under Settings > Users. Techs see a new service type at their next stop after you assign it, so consider assigning at the end of a route day and telling your techs what to expect.
Set default service types for body of water types
Each body of water type points to a default service type. New bodies of water of that type land on the right service automatically.
To add a body of water type:
- From the left navigation menu, click Settings.
- Under Settings, click Service Types.
- Click the Body of Water Types tab.
- To add your own type, like Salt Pool or Cold Plunge, click Add Body of Water Type and enter a name.
- Select its default service type and tag color.
- Click + Add.
To change the default service type for an existing body of water type:
- From the left navigation menu, click Settings.
- Under Settings, click Service Types.
- Click the Body of Water Types tab.
- Click the body of water type you want to change, like Pool. The Edit Body of Water Type page opens.
- Select a new Default Service Type.
- Click Save.
- If bodies of water already use this type, a prompt titled "How would you like to change default service?" opens. Choose one:
- New bodies of water only - only bodies of water you add from now on get the new service type. Existing ones keep their current service type. This is the default choice.
- Switch existing bodies of water - existing bodies of water on this type also move to the new service type. Any body of water whose service type was set on the customer page keeps its service type, and Skimmer tells you how many that is. The button shows the count, for example, Switch 12 existing bodies of water.
Note: Bodies of water that move to the new service type only show its readings and dosages. If the new service type doesn't include a reading the LSI and dosing calculator needs, like water temperature, the calculator isn't available for those bodies of water.
Assign service types to existing bodies of water
Use the following steps to change the service types for multiple bodies of water. The bulk change works one page at a time, up to 25 bodies of water per page.
Tips & tricks
- Set defaults before you bulk assign - that way, new bodies of water land on the right service type while you work.
- Check your filters before you click Apply - tags belong to the customer, not the body of water. Filtering by a spa tag also lists that customer's pool, so review your selection before you apply a service type. Leads and inactive customers also show in the Bodies of Water list.
- From the left navigation menu, click Customers.
- Click the Bodies of Water tab.
- Filter the list to the bodies of water you want to change. For example, filter by tag, or show Unclassified bodies of water.
- Select the bodies of water you want to change.
- Click Set Type & Service.
- From the Set Type & Service window, select the new service type. If the bodies of water are Unclassified, also select a body of water type. Otherwise, leave the body of water type set to Keep current.
- Click Apply.
Change the service type on a customer’s body of water
- From the left navigation menu, click Customers.
- Locate and click the customer name.
- From the customer profile, click the body of water tab.
- In the body of water info card, click Edit.
- Select a new Service Type.
- Click Save.
- Click Switch Service Type to confirm your change. Items you added to this body of water stay, and its recurring items restart their schedule.
Add items to a customer’s body of water
Use added items for exceptions, like a body of water with a special piece of equipment. If you keep adding the same items to many bodies of water, create a separate service type for bodies of water like them instead.
- From the left navigation menu, click Customers.
- Locate and click the customer name.
- From the customer profile, click the body of water tab.
- In the Checklist section, you can:
- Add a checklist item - click Add Checklist Item to add a checklist item just for this body of water.
- Add a checklist template - click Add from a Template to select and add an existing checklist template to this body of water.
- Create a new template - to reuse these items on other bodies of water, click Save as Template.
