Step-by-step instructions . . .

1

In addition to Skimmer’s universal database of equipment, you have the ability to create and manage your own list of Products. You can add them to the shopping list, mark them as installed, and bill for them just like you would with items from Skimmer’s database. And because this Products list is unique to your company, you can assign extra information to items, such as category and price.

In this video, we’ll show you how to create those categories. They’re optional, but they make it a lot easier to organize your list. On the website, go to Settings and then Products. In the top right corner, click Categories.

2

On the Categories page, note first that you can edit any existing category. So if you want to change a name, or delete one altogether, you can do so. To add a new category, click the Add Category button, give it a name (Heaters), and Save. Then you’ll see it on the list of available categories.

3

How do these categories help you? Back on the Products page, click Add Product and note that when you create a new item, you have the option of assigning it a category. This helps to further identify the item, and is especially useful for filtering your Products list, when you want to zero in on specific item types.

4

You can also assign a category to an existing Product. So for demonstration, we’ll find an item without a category and click Edit (Pentair MasterTemp). On the edit pop-up, we’ll click the Category dropdown and choose the appropriate one (Heaters), then Save. And now our Product has a category.

5
Now, if we want to quickly find that Product and others like it, at the top of the screen we’ll click the Categories dropdown and choose a category to filter on. Especially if you have a large list of Products, this makes it quick and easy to find what you need.

So, that’s how to create a Product Category, assign it to items, and then search and filter by that category.
