Tech Alerts - FAQ

What does a tech need in order to receive alerts?

Three things have to be true for techs to receive alerts:

  • They're on version 12.15 or later of the Skimmer app.
  • They've opened the app at least once since Tech Alerts was turned on.
  • Notifications are on for Skimmer in their phone's settings.
  • Their device does not have Do Not Disturb (DND) or Focus mode enabled.

Can I send a Tech Alert from my phone?

No. You can only send an alert from the Send Tech Alert option in the top navigation of the web app. The mobile app only receives and displays alerts.

I turned on Tech Alerts for my company. Why isn't anyone receiving alerts?

This can happen when you enable Tech Alerts. Each tech has to open the Skimmer app once after Tech Alerts is turned on before their phone can receive anything. Have the team open the app, then send a test alert.

Why did my tech get the alert hours after I sent it?

Alerts send immediately and don't expire or observe quiet hours, so a delayed alert still arrives with the original message intact. If this keeps happening, contact Skimmer Support.

What do I do if my tech's notifications are off and they can't turn them on in Skimmer?

Have your tech tap the Settings option in the Permissions screen to go to their phone's settings, turn notifications on, then return to Skimmer. The status updates when they come back.

How many people can I send one alert to?

There's no maximum. Add users by role to send to everyone in a role at once.

Does my tech need to be logged in to get alerts?

Yes, techs need to be logged-in to the Skimmer app to receive notifications. If they miss the notification, they can search for the alert after logging in by going to Settings > Tech Alerts > View Your Alerts.

Can I attach a photo or a file to an alert?

No. Alerts are text only: a title up to 50 characters and a message up to 500 characters.

Will my tech get the alert if they have no signal?

Yes, once their phone reconnects. Because alerts don't expire, it may arrive well after you sent it.

Can I see if my tech read the alert?

No. There's no read receipt. Skimmer only records send/delivery status, and that status isn't visible to the office in v1.

I sent an alert to the wrong people — can I recall it?

No. Alerts can't be recalled or unsent once sent. Turning off Tech Alerts for the company only stops future sends.

Can my tech reply to an alert?

No. Tech Alerts are one-way communication. There's no reply mechanism.

Can I see a history of alerts I've sent?

No. The office doesn't have a send-history or "who saw it" view in v1. Only the tech can view alert history, in-app, for 7 days.
